E-Invoicing mandates continue to make deep inroads globally, as a way of gaining better controls and visibility. The drivers differ from country to country, as do the methods, but for many the aim is to close the VAT gap and stem the seismic flow of funds out of the economy lost to fraud. To some extent the UK has lagged behind its global and European neighbours, but with the public consultation into E-Invoicing which closed in May, things may be about to change. In this panel session we’ll discuss the likelihood of a UK mandate, its possible method, its effects, and impact for British connected businesses.
Panel session delivered by UKeLab members Didier Lombard, Liz Barclay and Phil Bailey.

There has been a lot of talk regarding the novelties Brazilian Tax Reform had brought, beginning with an strong use of automatic split payment, continuing by discarding VAT returns in the traditional way, and introducing the concept of “financial right of credit”, in the sense that it is not enough that the seller declares its VAT debit in the invoice: the buyer only will have right to the corresponding credit after that debit had been actually paid (no matter by whom, either seller or buyer – this is closely related to the possibility of split payment), and the payment information having been sent to the TA.
Of course, it all begins with E-Invoicing, which is the star of the whole system.
Vinicius Pimentel de Freitas Tax Auditor, Rio Grande do Sul State Income Subsecretary, Brazil
